Sma Anatomy

In human anatomy the superior mesenteric artery sma arises from the anterior surface of the abdominal aorta just inferior to the origin of the celiac trunk and supplies the intestine from the lower part of the duodenum through two thirds of the transverse colon as well as the pancreas. The superior mesenteric artery is a major blood vessel in the digestive system.

It arises from the abdominal aorta and supplies arterial blood to the organs of the midgut which spans from the major duodenal papilla of the duodenum to the proximal 23 of the transverse colon.

Sma anatomy. The midgut extends from this point to the proximal two thirds of the way along the transverse colon. The mesentery of the small intestine arises from the root of the mesentery or mesenteric root and is the part connected with the structures in front of the vertebral column. The superior mesenteric artery sma is a major artery of the abdomen.

The first branch that comes off the superior mesenteric artery is the inferior pancreaticoduodenal artery. The blood supply to the rectum arises from the superior middle and inferior rectal arteries. As mentioned above in the discussion of embryology this artery will supply the distal duodenum the small intestine and the large intestine to the mid transverse colon.

The superior mesenteric artery sma is one of the three non paired major visceral arteries in the abdominal cavity arising from the abdominal aorta and supplying the midgut. This anastomoses with a branch of the gastroduodenal artery which comes off the common hepatic artery of the celiac axis. The root is narrow about 15 cm long 20 cm in width and is directed obliquely from the duodenojejunal flexure at the left side of the second lumbar vertebra to the right sacroiliac joint.

Superior mesenteric artery sma the sma is the second ventral branch of the abdominal aorta. The hindgut runs from this point to the dentate line of the anal canal. Gross anatomy origin single vessel arising anteriorly from the abdom.

Superior mesenteric artery syndrome is a digestive condition that occurs when the duodenum the first part of the small intestine is compressed between two arteries the aorta and the superior mesenteric artery. This artery branches off the abdominal aorta and supplies oxygenated blood to the pancreas and the lower parts of the.
