Epiglottic Vallecula

The epiglottic vallecula is a depression just behind the root of the tongue between the medial and lateral glosso epiglottic folds in the throat.

Vallecula anatomy. The procedure requires the blade tip of a macintosh style laryngoscope to be placed as far as possible into the vallecula in order to facilitate directly visualizing the glottis. Specific sub sites of these organs which are considered lateral sites are indicated with an asterisk in the code table above. They are located between the lateral glossoepiglottic folds and the median glossoepiglottic fold.

The epiglottic valleculae are paired depressions in the oropharynx located anterior to the epiglottis and posterior to the base of tongue. This depression is called the vallecula of the cerebellum and lodges the posterior part of the medulla oblongata and the inferior vermis which consists of the tuber vermis pyramid uvula and nodule. On the superior surface of cerebellum the vermis protrudes above the level of the hemispheres but on the inferior surface it is sunk almost out of sight in the bottom of a deep depression between them.
