The three main regions of the small intestine are the duodenum the jejunum and the ileum. Together with the esophagus large intestine and the stomach it forms the gastrointestinal tract.

The coiled tube of the small intestine is subdivided into three regions.

As compared to the small intestine the large bowel is wider. The small intestine is made up of the duodenum jejunum and ileum. Most absorption of nutrients and water happen in the intestines.
