Knee Anatomy Muscles And Tendons

One of the most important tendons is the quadriceps tendon. The quadriceps are four muscles that straighten the knee.

The knee joint is made up of four bones which are connected by muscles ligaments and tendons.

Knee anatomy muscles and tendons. Tendons are the connection between bones and muscles. Muscles propel the knee joint back and forth. This lies on the front of the knee and connects the quadriceps muscles of the thigh to the tibia via the patella and patellar ligament or tendon.

The patella tendons surround the kneecap and the quadriceps tendons are toward the back of the knee and leg. Ligaments join the knee bones and provide stability to the knee. There are numerous tendons around the knee that also help to stabilize the knee.

The quadriceps muscles provide strength and power with knee extension straightening and the hamstrings muscles allow for strength and power in flexion bending. The patellar tendon on the front of the knee is part of the quadriceps mechanism. The fibula is the smaller shin bone located next to the tibia.

Tendons connect the knee bones to the leg muscles that move the knee joint. The knee joint is most significantly affected by two major muscle groups. The hamstrings are three muscles at the back of the thigh that bend the knee.

When the muscle contracts the tendons are pulled and the bone is moved. They are attached to the femur thighbone tibia shinbone and fibula calf bone by fibrous tissues called ligaments. A tendon connects the muscle to the bone.

The muscles rest up against the bones will the tendons preserve this connection. Around the knee there are two types of tendons. The tibia is the large shin bone.

The gluteal muscles gluteus medius and minimus also known. The anterior cruciate ligament prevents the femur from. The femur is the large bone in the thigh.

They are associated with muscles discussed in the section above see above. The muscles that affect the knees movement run along the thigh and calf.
