Hard Palate Anatomy

The hard palate is a thin horizontal bony plate made up of two bones of the facial skeleton located in the roof of the mouth. The hard palate spans the alveolar arch formed by the alveolar process that holds the upper teeth when these are developed.

Hard palate anatomy. The hard palate palate in vertebrate anatomy the roof of the mouth separating the oral and nasal cavities. The anterior portion of the palate is bordered anteriorly and laterally by the maxillary teeth. The bones are the palatine process of the maxilla and the horizontal plate of palatine bone.

The objective of the hard palate is both feeding and speech. Incisive foramen in the anterior hard palate in the midline which transmits the nasopalatine nerve. Greater palatine foramina in the posterolateral aspect of the hard palate which transmits.

It is arched concave and creates a vault within the oral cavity that is mostly filled by the tongue. The incisive fossa contains the nasopalatine nerves and sits directly behind the central incisors. It consists of an anterior hard palate of bone and in mammals a posterior soft palate that has no skeletal support and terminates in a fleshy elongated projection called the uvula.

Hard palate anatomy the bones that comprise the hard palate are the palatine processes of the maxillae anteriorly and the horizontal plates of the palatine bones posteriorly. Soft palate comprised of muscle fibres covered by a mucous membrane. Hard palate cancer is a type of head and neck cancer that begins when cells that make up the bony part of the roof of the mouth grow out of control and form lesions or tumors.

It has several foramina including. In palate it consists of an anterior hard palate of bone and in mammals a posterior soft palate that has no skeletal support and terminates in a fleshy elongated projection called the uvula. The hard palate creates a barrier between the mouth and the nasal cavity.

Hard palate the hard palate is the fixed anterior two thirds of the palate that is formed by the palatal processes of the maxillae and horizontal plates of the palantine bones. It is separated into two distinct parts. The hard palate is bounded in front and laterally by the superior alveolar ridge.

The hard palate contains five foramina which include the incisive fossa a pair of greater palatine foramina and a pair of lesser palatine foramina. Lesser palatine foramina in the posterolateral aspect of the hard. The hard palate separates the oral and nasal cavities.
