Hand arterial anatomy. As the radial artery continues in the hand it wraps around the thumb and comes across the deep palm. Arterial supply to the hand begins with the ulnar and radial arteries. The hand has a rich arterial supply with many anastomoses between vessels.

The lateral side of the thumb receives a branch directly from the radial artery. These nerves supply the skin muscles joints and other tissues. This complex structure connects the entire hand to the radius and ulna facilitates the passage of tendons together with the above mentioned neurovascular structures from the forearm to the hand and permits us to exploit all its movements.

In the little finger the radial digital artery is dominant in the middle and ring fingers ulnar and radial digital arteries are dominant respectively but dominance is less obvious. This rich vascular network can be divided into palmar and dorsal components. First dorsal metacarpal artery arises just before the radial artery passes between the two heads of the first dorsal interosseous muscle and divides almost immediately into two branches which supply the adjacent sides of the thumb and index finger.
